About Ratby Library
Ratby Community Library is a volunteer-run charity dedicated to keeping library services alive in our village. After the closure of the council-run facility, a group of committed local residents stepped in to ensure the doors stayed open.
We’re more than just a place to borrow books — we’re a space to learn, connect, and feel part of the community. From computer access and printing to children’s activities and study spaces, the library offers a wide range of services to meet local needs.
Everything we do is made possible by our incredible team of volunteers, and by the support of the wider community.

Our Cafe
We are all proud of our Crow Pie Cafe, named after the carnival that used to occur every two years in the village. We have sited the seating area in the lightest, brightest corner of the library building and used existing furniture to provide 15 seating places, including for children who need high chairs.
We sell a range of teas and coffees together with a selection of individually-wrapped snacks of biscuits, chocolate, cereal bars, cakes and crisps and plan to extend the range offered.
Those who have visited the cafeteria have commented on the restful atmosphere of the space and the competitive prices of the products offered.
Our aim is to have a fully functioning, albeit small commercial kitchen paid for out of grant funding!
Ratby Library Trustees Board of TrusteesVolunteer Run
Ratby Library is entirely run by volunteers — local people who care about keeping our library open and thriving.
From helping visitors and running events to managing books and maintaining the space, our volunteers make everything possible. Their time, skills, and commitment are what keep the doors open.
But volunteering isn’t just about giving — it’s also incredibly rewarding. Volunteers often tell us they’ve gained new skills, built confidence, met new people, and enjoyed feeling part of something that matters.
Whether you have a few hours a week or want to take on a regular role, we’re always looking for friendly faces to join the team.
